2018 Fellows hard at work during our January Kickoff Event @ USF

2018 is an exciting year for our Data Fellowship. In January, we welcomed our largest yet Fellowship cohort of 40 talented data professionals who have been hard at work for the past two months across 10 nonprofit partner projects.

Beyond an increase in the number of projects, our projects this year also span the globe from nonprofits that support those in need in our own SF Bay Area backyard such as Mission Economic Development Agency to organizations such as Medic Mobile which are deploying healthcare technologies across the world. We are also tackling a wider range of technical and project domain challenges from applying natural language processing techniques to enable local civic participation with the Open Media Foundation, building recommender systems for easier discovery of resources for the underserved with One Degree, to developing insights on the risk factors associated with health outcomes with Medic Mobile’s patient data.

Thanks to Our Volunteers and Supporters

None of these projects would be possible without the inspiring spirit of volunteerism that our project teams and program organizers bring to Delta. Our partners at the University of San Francisco Data Institute and Domino Data Lab have also generously contributed space and resources which enable our programs. We are excited to see what our teams are able to accomplish this year!
